The increasing digitalization of communication and educational processes is significantly transforming writing practices, raising relevant pedagogical questions about the role and value of handwriting in the 21st century. This paper analyzes the emerging tensions between manual and digital writing, exploring the risks, potential, and educational implications for the development of creativity.
Through an interdisciplinary theoretical framework that integrates pedagogical, neuroscientific, and cultural perspectives, the article highlights how the graphomotor gesture fosters deep cognitive processes, reflective thinking, and expressive modes that are not fully replicable in digital contexts. A small-scale survey conducted with future specialized teachers in primary and lower secondary schools reveals divergent perceptions: digital writing is associated with speed and functionality, while handwriting is perceived as more personal, slow, and generative. Based on these results, the paper proposes an integrated educational model that values both modalities, recognizing handwriting as an essential formative resource to support creativity, awareness, and narrative identity
